This is a little story about how I obtained this lovely little trotter Happy Interest.
Happy Interest was bred in the purple to trot he is closely related to Noopy Kiosk (his half brother) however it didn't turn out that way. He was kept entire to around age 7 and raced to that age but didn't have the ability, he ran in Victoria and South Australia with a dismal $17,000 in prize money, he cost $47k as a yearling.
I went to the Yearling Sales in Melbourne in 2005 to maybe buy a nice type of yearling to 'show' not race but was most dissapointed as the starting price for every horse was well over my budget, so... I went from stall to stall and talked to the owners of the lovely yearlings I had picked to be show winners.
Met a nice man from Sheron Park and told him about my pllight... he giggled and said he has exactly what I want sitting in his paddock and to come and have a look.
The next weekend we went to his stud and he showed me this flashy little gelding called Happy. He had everything I wanted in a show horse and was since gelded but still had that proudness, had a lovely big walk and showed lots of presence and had that WOW factor when he trotted, I couldn't get him in the float quick enough.
Happy is successfully being shown in standardbred and open hack classes with major wins at all Agriculture show & Royal Shows in both led and show harness classes he is the 'young' age of 11 - he gets better with age! He adapted very quickly from paddock ornament to show horse within a matter of weeks, he is extremely trainable, a willing pupil and very intelligent.
Who said stb's have no talent , are ugly and are only good in a can?
I'm very proud of Happy and proud to show people that standardbreds can do anything you ask of them - no different to any other breed of horse.
