Zenolas Princess, the 1/2 sister to Zenad was the top price in the NZ section of the online broodmare auction which closed yesterday with the Ashburton based harness racing website -www.standardbredsonline.com.
Purchased by a prominent Christchurch based enthusiast Zenolas Princess sold for the sum of $30,050 and is carrying her first foal by Armbro Operative (USA). Offered by Pukekohe breeders Aria & Geoff Small, the mare is very closely related to their former stable star Elsu, who has had made a huge impression with his first crop, since they have hit the trials & races in the last weeks as 2 year olds.
For mares auctioned & residing in Australia, Benefactors half sister Under Privileged was the top lot to change hands.
Purchased by well known Victorian harness racing identity Ross Pike the Whats Next (USA) mare was offered by NSW vendor Ray Thacker, in foal to the well sought after sire Grinfromeartoear (USA).The 7 win half sister to Benefactor, Beneficent, etc at the $12,500 selling price should prove a great investment for her purchaser.
A spokesman for the website said it was most gratifying to vendors with lesser lights meet the market in the January auction and this allowed hobby breeders and more importantly first time buyers into the breeding game at a realistic initial purchasing cost.
The website promotes itself as the home of "Australasia's Monthly Broodmare Silent Auctions" and after being in operation for just four months is proving a valuable asset for the industry on both sides of the Tasman.
